The Global dimensions of Business
Models, 1. Draft
Abstract
This article has identified, defined and described the global business model as
an integration of upstream and downstream structural design elements with
content (products and offerings), governance (modes of operation) and the
geographic scope. When designing global business models, the geographic scope is
international in upstream as well as in downstream activities in contrary to
domestic, export-based and import-based business models. These value-adding
activities can be handled by many types of modes of operation where licensing,
franchising, joint ventures and sales and production subsidiaries are the most
global ones, and the offerings and products can be standardized, adapted,
specialized or coordinated in order to handle the distances between the
different contexts.
